Acute Discogenic Back Pain

  • The most important thing you can do is to rest by lying flat on your back on a flat surface with your knees bent; this will take the pressure off the nerve. You may get up to use the bathroom and as your back improves you may spend more time up and about. But prolonged sitting is not helpful and may cause pain.
  • You should continue to rest your back this way for 10 to 14 days, and take the medications to relieve the pain.
  • If the pain continues after two weeks or if you loose control over control over your bowels or bladder, visit physician immediately.
