Nosebleed

There are many causes for a nosebleed: trauma, high blood pressure, or spontaneous rupture of a blood vessel. Your doctor may place some gauze padding in your nose to prevent further bleeding.

Home Treatment:

  • Rest in bed.
  • If your nose begins to bleed again when you are home, sit upright with your head bent forward and apply firm pinching pressure to your nose for ten minutes. If bleeding continues, see a physician.
  • If you nose has been packed with gauze, your doctor will tell you when to return to have the packing removed.
  • If you have high blood pressure and have stopped taking your medication, start again.
