There are numerous causes for headaches.  They can be caused by:

1) Stress
2) Circulatory problems which can be stomach related.  People do not realize that the food they eat can cause headaches.
3) Hypertension (high blood pressure)
4) Menstrual cycles in women.
5) Bad vision and eye related issues.
6) TMJ - jaw related issues.
7) Tumors/Cancer.

Different causes result in pain in various places in the head.

1) One-sided Headache
A one-sided headache can occur on either the right or left side of the head.  It is related to an inflammation in the brain nerve.  This can be caused by stress in men and women.  Women may also experience this type of headache from their menstrual cycle.  During menstruation, a woman's body retains water which impacts the brain nerve, causing migraines.

Treatment: Roasted Corn Tea.
Preparation: Cut corn from cob, place on baking sheet and bake in oven for about an hour until it is dark brown.  Remove the kernels and place in boiling water. Lower heat to medium high and continue to boil for one hour.  After one hour, raise heat to high, and vigorously boil for ten additional minutes. Remove from heat, strain, and store in covered container in the refrigerator. Drink freely.  Add no sweetener.

2) Forehead
Sinus headaches.

3) Top of Head
Stress.

4) Back of Head
Hypertension or tumors.

The back of the head may also experience headaches due to muscle contractions in the back and neck. This is usually caused by stress, and when stress occurs in the body, it disrupts the body's circulation.

Another cause of "back of the head" headaches is a cervical spinal disorder.  The cervical spine may not be strong enough to hold up the head which weighs one-third of a person's total body weight.  The necessary muscles become extra tight, and this causes the headache.

Many people who perform computer related tasks all day tend to develop headaches in the back of the head. There are two kinds of treatments that can be utilized. One, is an eastern medicine treatment of acupressure and/or acupuncture combined with healing herbs. The second treatment which is preferred and should be tried first is "natural healing treatment".  This can be done by simple exercises which will relieve tension and may re-align any discs that may be out of place.

NECK ROTATION:
Stand or sit in cross-legged position, relax, and rotate neck in slow, wide rotations. Do not lean or roll the head in short circles as this may cause additional problems and pain. Rotate the neck in one direction 8 times, then repeat in the other direction.

This exercise will aid the discs in realignment if necessary, and the motion allows the body to "lubricate" the moving joints itself.  The body is amazing and is equipped with the ability to heal itself.

If you hear noises in your neck as your perform this exercise, it is an indication of a problem. Be persistent in performing the exercise, and the noises will eventually go away or diminish greatly as the body heals itself.

Special Note: If you feel a tingling in your fingers or a numbness in your arm, do not ignore it. This may be a symptom of a serious problem. Consult your doctor immediately. You may be experiencing a slipped disc that is pushing on or irritating the nerve.

ARM ROTATIONS:
Just as performing the Neck Rotations helps lubricate the joints in the neck, Arm Rotations help lubricate the Rotator cuff (where the arm  joins the shoulder). To perform the rotations, simply spread your arms wide at your side while standing, rotate the arms in wide, slow circles from front to back 8 times, then repeat the circles going from back to front. Eventually the joints will open if your are persistent.

WRIST ROTATIONS:
All of the exercises mentioned above are great for all people, but especially beneficial to those people who work at a desk all day with very little movement - especially people working at a computer. The repetitive motion and long hours spent in the same position causes much of the distress that has been mentioned. An additional problem area is in the wrists. To relieve stress in the wrists and lubricate the joints, hold arms out straight in front of you, hands facing palms out. Rotate the hands in unison downward, and then facing towards your body until the palms are facing you, thumbs on the outsides, then finish the rotation by facing palms together, and opening them back out so that they are facing away from you, and thumbs are touching again in the original position. Do this rotation 8 times, then repeat the exercise in the opposite direction.

TAI CHI:
The Tai Chi form will help greatly in loosening tight muscles and joints. It is a Martial Art form that utilizes internal and external energy. Tai Chi will help a person control their stress levels, learn to relax the body, strengthen muscles, and lubricate joints. Tai Chi is a great healing Martial Art for both mind and body.

If hypertension is a problem and cause of headaches, you will need good guidance from a doctor.

Why is aspirin and pain relievers like Advil and Aleve not good choices for relieving headache pain?

Many people take pain relievers that have anti-inflammatory properties to relieve headaches. This is not a good option because the medicine damages the platelets in the blood. Platelets are directly related to the body's immune system, and the blood's ability to clot. It stands to reason that if the blood cannot clot you may develop serious problems. Once there is a rupture, whether internally or externally, if the blood cannot clot, the bleeding will not stop.

People who take numerous pain relievers also suffer from liver damage and the stomach lining is eaten away.

Some doctors prescribe aspirin for heart patients. There is congestion in the blood stopping the flow, and aspirin reduces the platelets thus easing the congestion. However, if the blood is purified and healthy, there will be no congestion, and no need to reduce the platelets count, thus not damaging the immune system.

If you have hypertension or migraines, please refer to the Roasted Corn Tea recipe above and drink freely.

Some people choose to drink cranberry juice to relieve migraines, but the juice contains large amounts of sugar which actually causes more migraines. You will experience greater relief from drinking the Roasted Corn Tea.

As always please consult your doctor if you have chronic symptoms or any of the serious symptoms listed above.
