Achieving a Black Belt is an
accomplishment derived from one's dedication and hard work. That is why we
respect this achievement. As we all know, in ancient times there was no
written certification of Black Belts. Thus, when the Master certified
someone in the martial arts it was always a verbal certification. The
Master simply stated that the student had the quality and had satisfied the requirements
to become a black belt. Later on, this verbal certification became a
written certificate in the Master's own hand. Now, everything is ready
made, even certification, so the Master only needs to sign the certificate to
make the Black Belt official.
Nevertheless, among serious
martial artist, the traditional ceremony is continued. This ceremony
consist of the Master tying the black belt directly on to the student who has
achieved this status.
